Thumb-Sucking In Children

Thumb-sucking is a common habit in children. It helps most of the kids to sleep comfortably while thumb-sucking and also provides them with a sense of security. At such times, try to distract the baby, by giving some biscuits or any eatables in the baby's hand so that the kids mind gets diverted from thumb-sucking. Don't ever force the baby, by pulling their thumb from the mouth as this might frustrate the kid and they tend to continue the habit more adamantly.
I too faced this problem with my son Umar. I tried applying ginger-garlic paste, neem paste etc. as suggested by few people, but nothing worked for me. In fact, Umar started crying even more and used to start vomiting most of the times. Then, I started to put on gloves on his hands and them securely. He used to try a lot but couldn't open it and then gradually, he left the habit when he was 3 months old.
One more way to deal with thumb-sucking is to encourage children in their other positive qualities. When the child tries to give up this habit, do encourage the child and praise them a lot.
Some parents try to introduce pacifiers to get rid of this habit but I don't think that's a good alternative. Good Luck!
